He unlocked the cemetery and showed us what he claimed to be the remnants of a secret tunnel which was supposed to have led to an escape hatch near the sea. He also told us that some descendants of the last Dutch governor of the fort still lived in Pondicherry, and made an annual pilgrimage to the fort.
